About
“Sketches for the Unemployed highlights the tremendous creativity and vitality that exists in London and that should be particularly celebrated at a time of economic hardship, when so many artists and creative people are currently unable to find employment.” Mayor of London, Boris Johnson
An innovative arts project celebrating creativity and the hope of new beginnings.
For many, the last 18 months have seen a lot of things fall; jobs, houses, mortgages. The UK Unemployment rate, in June 2009, hit 2.4 million and is set to deteriorate through to the end of the year. Yet sometimes, one thing falling enables something better to be rebuilt.
We believe that art has the power to rebuild.
Sketches For The Unemployed brings a collection of artists together for a series of exhibitions. Anyone is welcome to come but the twist is, if you are unemployed and you like some of the work displayed you can apply to us, and we will arrange for the art to be sent out for free. Keep an eye out for more events coming in the New Year.
Though the economy has brought much good work to dust, our art is ‘Building monuments from ruins‘.
